B.C. tops the world in percentage of adults who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

According to the University of Oxford’s Our World Data report, as of Monday Canada led the world in the percentage of first doses delivered to an adult population at 65 per cent.

Canada topped Israel, the U.K. and Chile in first doses, however those countries have a greater percentage who are fully vaccinated with the second dose.

Within Canada, B.C. leads the pack with 76.1 per cent of all adults with at least one dose of vaccine — and so tops the world list.

On Tuesday, the provincial health officer reported no COVID-19 deaths and 108 new cases of the disease.

Dr. Bonnie Henry said there were 1,357 active cases in the community and 139 being treated in hospital, including 39 people in intensive care.

On Monday, there were 55,000 doses of vaccine delivered in B.C. — mostly Pfizer — of which 44,000 were second doses.

There has now been 657,491 second doses administered to 14.5 per cent of adults in B.C., and 74.4 per cent of those over 12 have had at least one dose of vaccine.

The latest COVID-19 variant report from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control shows the growth of the Delta and Kappa variants first identified in India is not accelerating. As of June 5, these variants accounted for less than five per cent of all variant cases.

The Alpha variant first identified in the U.K. accounts for half of all cases, while the Gamma variant, first found in Brazil accounts, for 40 per cent of cases.
