The health department in Waterloo Region reported 51 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. 39 are from Monday, the rest were added to previous daily totals. It compares to 43 cases reported the day before.
The overall total is now at 16,715.
The active caseload is up again to 484.
52 people are being treated in hospital --- 22 are in intensive care.
Over 72 per cent of adults in the region have received at least one dose of the vaccine, which works out to over 414,000 doses. More than 56,000 residents (12.14 per cent) have been fully vaccinated.
Here are some other updates from the region's dashboard:
- 3,465 cases have screened positive for variants of concern - 3,052 are the Alpha variant (first found in U.K.) - 11 are linked to the Beta variant (first detected in South Africa) - 36 are linked to the Delta strain (first located in India) - 60 are linked to the Gamma variant (first found in Brazil) - 306 cases where a mutation has been detected
- The local death toll is at 258. No new deaths were reported Tuesday
- 15,961 resolved cases (95 per cent)
- Over 505,000 tests have been done
There are currently seven active outbreaks in the region. Four are in workplaces:
- NEW Food and beverage services 19 (2 cases)
- NEW Trades and related services 14 (3 cases)
- The Village of Winston Park long-term care (3 cases in residents, 3 in staff)
- General office setting 13 (5 cases)
- Trillium Bilingual Montessori School Child Care (2 cases)
- Waterloo Regional Police - Central Division (2 cases)
- Congregate setting 42 - multiple locations (87 cases)
Meantime, the province reported 296 cases on Tuesday. It's the lowest daily increase since September 17, 2020.
