Region reports 39 new COVID cases Sunday - KitchenerToday.com

Region of Waterloo Public Health reported 39 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, bringing the overall total to 15,930.

Hospitalizations remain at 23, with 12 patients in intensive care.

The active caseload is down by 22 to 339.

298,861 doses of the COVID vaccine have been administered to residents of Waterloo Region (59.27 per cent) --- 19,675 local residents (18+) have been fully vaccinated (4.22 per cent).

Here are some other updates from the region's dashboard: 

  • 3,209 cases have screened positive for variants of concern - 2,833 are the U.K. strain - six are linked to the variant first detected in South Africa - nine are linked to the strain first found in India - 27 are linked to the strain first found in Brazil - 334 cases where a mutation has been detected
  • The local death toll remains at 256. No new deaths were reported Sunday
  • 15,322 resolved cases (96 per cent)
  • Over 491,200 tests have been done
There are currently nine active outbreaks in the region. Six are in workplaces:
  • Wilfrid Laurier University (two cases)
  • Food & Beverage Services 18 (two cases)
  • Construction 15 (three cases)
  • Congregate setting 41 (one case)
  • Farm 2 (13 cases)
  • Food and beverage services 17 (six cases)
  • Forest Heights long-term care - Hewson Unit (two cases in residents, five in staff)
  • Retail 9 (six cases)
  • Manufacturing/industrial 17 (31 cases)
Meantime, the province reported 1,033 cases on Sunday.

The rest of the provincial COVID-19 totals are posted below:

  • 687,894 vaccinations have been completed - 8.98 million doses have been administered
  • 530,543 total cases
  • 508,428 resolved cases
  • 749 people are in hospital - 614 are in intensive care - 417 are on a ventilator
  • 8,744 deaths (18 new)
  • 26,565 tests completed Saturday - 15.2 million since January 15, 2020
