Sault news: Second outbreak declared at local hospital - CTV News Northern Ontario

Sault Area Hospital declared a COVID-19 outbreak on 1B on Saturday.

“Effective immediately, we will limit visitors to this unit to only approved essential caregivers,” the hospital said on social media.

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It first emerged in late 2019 and quickly spread worldwide, resulting in a global pandemic. The virus primarily spreads through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks, and it can also be transmitted by touching contaminated surfaces.

COVID-19 can cause a range of symptoms, from mild respiratory issues to severe pneumonia and multi-organ failure, with older adults and those with underlying health conditions being particularly vulnerable.

All health care workers and members of the public (patients/clients and essential caregivers/visitors) are reminded to wear a mask or face covering upon entering Sault Area Hospital or SAH’s community-based locations. Hospital-approved masks will be provided at all entrances.

“Visitors and essential caregivers who feel unwell are asked to postpone visiting their loved ones until they are no longer experiencing symptoms,” the hospital said.

“If you have visited and develop symptoms, please let your loved ones care team know.”

This follows the declaration of parainfluenza outbreak at the hospital on Thursday and a gastrointestinal outbreak at a long-term care facility in Elliot Lake on Friday.

Adblock test (Why?)
