A respiratory infection outbreak has been declared at a seniors home in Kelowna.

Interior Health stated the infection was identified at the Sunset Maple Unit of The Vineyards long-term care facility on Thursday, August 10.

The health authority told Vernon Matters a total of 12 residents and one staff member were affected by the outbreak as of Friday. It also stated there were no hospitalizations or deaths linked to the infections.

IH said measures were put in place to prevent further spread of the illness, including enhanced cleaning, disinfection and hygiene protocols; isolating symptomatic residents; and adhering to visitor guidelines.
