Those who are immunocompromised or who spend time around those who are vulnerable to illness are being encouraged to get a COVID booster come the fall.
The E.G.5 subvariant is in circulation and as the weather starts to cool and school reopens for the year, the likelihood of spread increases.
Professor of Virology and Immunology at Memorial University, Rodney Russell, says the vaccine doesn’t guarantee you won’t get COVID, but it does offer some protection for a few months.
He says cases are “already pretty high, we just don’t talk about it that much.” Russell says a vaccine will offer protection for 2 to 3 months to those who have not yet contracted the virus or those who are immunocompromised.
