Researchers at the Harvard claim to have made a significant discovery—a chemical cocktail that purportedly has the ability to reverse the ageing process. This finding may result in a “Fountain of Youth” pill, according to the New York Post.
In a series of Twitter posts, David Sinclair, a Harvard researcher, shared the findings that were published in the medical journal Aging. Sinclair explained that they had previously demonstrated age reversal using gene therapy, and now they have shown that it is also possible through chemical cocktails, bringing us closer to accessible whole-body rejuvenation.
“We’ve previously shown age reversal is possible using gene therapy to turn on embryonic genes,” the tweet reads.
“Now we show it’s possible with chemical cocktails, a step towards affordable whole-body rejuvenation,” the post added.
The chemical cocktails consisted of five to seven agents, some of which are already used to treat various physical and mental disorders. For instance, medications like Valproic acid, Tranylcypromine, and Pramipexole, which are prescription-only drugs used for treating seizures, depression, and Parkinson's disease respectively, were included in the cocktails.
Sinclair, a genetics professor and the author of the book "Lifespan," and his team at Harvard Medical School dedicated over three years to finding specific molecules that can work together to reverse cellular aging and rejuvenate human cells. Through experiments on mice and monkeys, they identified six chemical cocktails that were able to reverse visible signs of ageing in less than a week.
While these findings are intriguing, it is important to note that further research and clinical trials are necessary to validate the effectiveness and safety of these chemical cocktails for human use.
