Inhaled medications and beyond: The role of pharmacy teams - Canadian Healthcare Network

Many patients with COPD or asthma have suboptimal control and incorrect inhaler technique. As new medications and inhalers continue to arrive, pharmacists’ interventions are increasingly important. Drawing from practice experience and Canadian and international guidelines, pharmacist and Certified Respiratory Educator Kathy Hayward presents practical approaches for pharmacy teams to help patients attain a better quality of life through improved control of their lung condition.

Learning objectives:

  • Put into practice recommendations from Canadian and international guidelines, including the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) and the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD), with a focus on inhaled medications
  • Remove barriers that affect a person’s inhaler device technique, so that therapy is safe and effective
  • Identify opportunities to optimize patient self-management, using all members of the pharmacy team
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with patients and their healthcare providers

Supported by an educational grant from Trudell Medical International.

This course expires February 23, 2024.

This course is accredited by CCCEP for 1.0 credits, and is available for free on our learning site, eCortex.
