A professor of immunization at Memorial University says we have become complacent with COVID-19, even as medical authorities in the country recommend getting a fall booster shot.
The National Advisory Committee on Immunization recommends another booster vaccine in the fall if it has been six months since your last booster or six months since you were last infected by the virus.
Infectious disease specialist, Dr. Michael Grant of MUN says anyone in a vulnerable group, such as a person over the age of 60, someone who is going to be around vulnerable people, or someone who is immunocompromised in some way, should get the shot.
He states that COVID is still present in Newfoundland and Labrador, but people, businesses, and even the health system have become complacent.
Grant says it’s easy to draw such a conclusion when out and about, as very few people now wear masks.
You saw how quickly people took them off when they became an option, but it would be a good idea to wear one if you’re going into a long-term care home or attending an event where there will be a lot of people, he says.
