Hamilton residents who are at high risk of serious illness from COVID-19 are now able to book their next bivalent booster shot.
The city said in a press release Thursday high-risk residents can get the bivalent vaccine — which targets the original strain of COVID as well as some variants — beginning April 6.
Those eligible include:
- People aged 65 and older;
- Residents of long-term care, retirement homes and elder care lodges;
- People aged 18 and older who live in congregate care settings for people with complex medical needs;
- Pregnant individuals;
- People aged 55 and older who identify as First Nations, Inuit or Métis, as well as their household members aged 55 and older; and
- People aged 18 and older with moderately to severely immunocompromising conditions.
The city recommends the vaccine for those who haven’t had a booster or been infected in at least six months.
You can book a bivalent booster appointment through the websites of local pharmacies, or through Hamilton’s online booking tool at hamilton.ca/GetYourVaccine up to 14 days in advance.
According to the city, 82 per cent of locals have received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 79 per cent have received a second as of April 3. More than 15 per cent have received a booster shot within the past six months.
