Iqaluit Public Health is holding a COVID-19 vaccine clinic for children under five who fit the department’s eligibility criteria.
The Department of Health made the announcement Monday in a news release.
Moderna’s Spikevax COVID-19 vaccines will be administered by appointment from Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., until Aug. 19.
Because the Government of Nunavut has received a limited amount of pediatric doses, it’s rolling out the vaccine to young children in steps.
Right now, eligible groups include:
- Children aged four years
- Those between six months and four years old who are considered to have an immunosuppression, have severe lung or heart disease, are undergoing treatment for cancer, and/or are taking medications that suppress the immune system.
Iqaluit Public Health is located in Building 1091 near the old airport terminal.
Appointments can be booked by calling (867) 975-4810.
Patients are asked to wear a mask to their appointment.
“The COVID-19 vaccine is Nunavut’s best protection against this virus, and all Nunavummiut are encouraged to be vaccinated as soon as they are eligible,” Health spokesperson Danarae Sommerville said in a media release.
