Due to rising COVID-19 case counts in the community, masking requirements for all individuals will continue indefinitely at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital.
The increase in cases is significantly impacting the hospital’s ability to staff programs and services, explained hospital president and CEO Karen Davies.
She added in a release, more staff are calling in sick with COVID or having COVID exposures than at any time during the pandemic.
Active screening and vaccination policies will also remain in place.
STEGH joins a number of hospitals across Southwestern Ontario by making this announcement, including Alexandra Hospital, Alexandra Marine & General Hospital, Grey Bruce Health Services, Hanover and District Hospital, Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance, Listowel Wingham Hospital Alliance, London Health Sciences Centre, Middlesex Hospital Alliance, St. Joseph’s Health Care, South Bruce Grey Health Centre, South Huron Hospital Association, Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, and Woodstock General Hospital.
