With Christmas just around the corner, the Region of Halton has put out some suggestions for businesses of all sizes that are planning their holiday parties.

As businesses and organizations, it is important to take the time to plan safe workplace celebrations to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission and workplace outbreaks.

Here are some key public health recommendations to celebrate safely:

  • Celebrate virtually, especially if people in the group are unvaccinated or if their vaccination status is unknown.
  • Keep the number of people gathering to a minimum. Consider smaller gatherings among departments or teams instead of hosting one large holiday party.
  • Gather or celebrate outdoors if possible.
  • Do not exceed the gathering limit of 25 people indoors and 100 people outdoors.
  • If hosting a workplace gathering or event at a venue (for example, restaurant, meeting or event space) follow the provincial restrictions for that setting. Local restrictions may also apply.
  • Tell guests to stay home if they have COVID-19 symptoms, even if they are mild.
  • If gathering indoors, ensure everyone wears a mask and stays physically distant when with people who are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated or status is unknown.
  • If gathering outdoors, wear a mask if required, or if physical distancing cannot be maintained and the vaccination status of individuals in attendance is unknown.
  • Make a list of guests attending in case public health needs it for contact tracing.
  • If serving food, offer individualized portions and not shared bowls of food.
  • Wash hands frequently. Provide supplies, including hand sanitizer, soap and water. Clean high-touch surfaces often.
