Our premier and his counterparts are calling on Atlantic Canadians to help limit the spread of COVID-19 over the holidays.
Tim Houston attended a Council of Atlantic Premiers meeting via teleconference on Monday to discuss the surge in cases.
A news release says the premiers are urging all residents to take action by following public health orders around testing, masking, and social distancing.
“Avoiding large gatherings, wearing a well-fitting mask in public places, maintaining two metres of physical distance in public settings and seeking testing when symptoms emerge will also help reduce the spread of infection,” the news release says.
They also encourage you to get fully vaccinated and to keep your gatherings small with a tight-knit group of family and friends.
The goal is to help limit the spread of the virus and to support the timely tracing of contacts when infections are reported.
The premiers were joined by local health ministers and senior Public Health officials.
“The goal of taking these actions, and following local Public Health restrictions, is to reduce the threat of the region’s hospitals becoming overwhelmed by seriously ill COVID-19 patients,” the statement says.
Meantime, Nova Scotians will hear from Houston and Dr. Robert Strang during a COVID-19 update at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
