UPDATE: Second COVID-19 outbreak declared at Royal Inland Hospital on Unit 7 North

Interior Health has declared a second COVID-19 outbreak at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

In a statement to NL News, they say there are four patient cases connected to this new outbreak on Unit 7 North, a medical unit treating cardiac and renal patients.

Callers to NL News on Monday, Nov. 8, said they were not allowed to go to Unit 7 North “for the past two days.” Reached by NL News, Interior Health did not have a statement Monday, except to say,” we’re working on it.”

“All services continue to be available at Royal Inland Hospital and the hospital remains safe to visit for anyone needing emergency care,” Interior Health said Tuesday.

The health authority reported one death linked to an outbreak on Unit 5 South yesterday. There are now 27 cases, 20 patients and seven staff, connected to that outbreak, which was declared a week ago, on Nov. 2.

The first COVID outbreak at RIH saw 105 cases and four deaths in January and February while the second in June and July saw 10 cases and no deaths. The third outbreak in September and October had just two cases connected.
