Hamilton Public Health is ramping up operations as it prepares for the vaccination of children aged five to 11.
The city of Hamilton says it is entering the “next phase” of its COVID-19 vaccine campaign which will include two new “fixed-site” vaccination clinics.
A new clinic will open on Wednesday at CF Lime Ridge Mall on Upper Wentworth St. and a second location will open in the lower city before the end of November.
The clinics will be equipped to administer 550 vaccines per day.
Public Health says it is working with local school boards and McMaster Children’s Hospital to create family-friendly clinics and an age-specific vaccine confidence campaign.
The city also revealed a new local COVID-19 vaccine booking system.
In a news release, Mayor Fred Eisenberger encouraged residents to get their first and second dose as soon as they are eligible.
“It is our individual and collective efforts to engage, share information and support family, friends and neighbours that has reinforced the resiliency and strength of the Hamilton community,” said Eisenberger. “We have made great strides in protecting the health and safety of our community, let’s continue to work together to keep everyone healthy and safe.”
The city says the goal provincially and locally continues to be reaching over 90 per cent vaccine coverage among those who are eligible.
In Hamilton, 85.2 per cent of eligible residents have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 81.3 per cent are fully vaccinated.
Public Health will continue to offer two mobile clinics each day, seven days per week in more consistent and predictable locations to offer community members more steady and consistent service for the community.
Health officials are also working with local health system partners in preparation for the expansion of third doses.
