HL: Manitoba health officials to give COVID-19 and vaccine update - CTV News

Winnipeg -

Manitoba health officials are set to provide a COVID-19 and vaccine update Wednesday afternoon.

Dr. Brent Roussin, chief provincial public health officer, and Dr. Joss Reimer, medical lead of the vaccine implementation task force, will speak at a virtual news conference at 12:30 p.m. CTV News Winnipeg will live-stream the event.

The news conference comes one day after the province announced 129 new COVID-19 cases. Of the new cases, 64 were unvaccinated, 61 were fully vaccinated and four were partially vaccinated. This brings the number of active cases in the province to 1,523 and the number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 66,952.

Manitoba also recorded four new deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the total to 1,296 since the pandemic began.

The province’s five-day test positivity rate is 5.9 per cent.

On Monday, the province began taking bookings for children between the ages of five and 11 to receive the Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccine. As of Tuesday morning, the province had booked more than 18,000 first-dose appointments for children in that age group. The province further indicated shots would begin getting into children’s arms later this week.
