The province reported two more deaths, raising Ontario’s total number of COVID-related deaths to 9,898.

Unvaccinated people and those whose vaccination status is unknown accounted for 388 of the new cases, but another 248 — nearly 40 per cent — of the new infections were in fully vaccinated people.

More than 22.6 million vaccine doses have been administered in the province and 84.9 per cent of Ontarians are fully vaccinated while 88.4 per cent have at least one dose, Health Minister Christine Elliott tweeted Sunday morning.

There are 93 people in Ontario hospitals with COVID-19 and 126 people in intensive care with COVID-related illness, Elliott tweeted, noting that not all hospitals report on weekends. (The number of ICU patients exceeds the total number of COVID patients in hospital because some no longer test positive for the disease.)

Sunday’s new case count is the highest in the province since Oct. 9. Last Sunday, Ontario’s new case count was just 340.

In health units in the capital region, the Eastern Ontario Health Unit reported six new cases; Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox & Addington jumped by 17; and Leeds, Grenville & Lanark added six. Renfrew County reported no new cases.

Meanwhile, bookings continued Sunday for booster shots for vulnerable residents, including those 70 and older, health-care workers and Indigenous people and any non-Indigenous members of their household. Also eligible are people who received two doses of the AstraZeneca or Janssen vaccines.

Although there were some complaints of glitches on the province’s vaccine booking portal, for the most part, the booking appeared to go smoothly. In a tweet, Ottawa Public Health said appointments were now available until Nov. 21, with additional slots opening up as more people become eligible.
