UHNBC implements full COVID-19 safety measures - Prince George Citizen

Northern Health has declared an outbreak at the long-term care facility Jubilee Lodge in Prince George to be officially over.

The outbreak was first declared on Sept. 5 after six patients and one employee tested positive.

COVID-19 protocols are being lifted at the facility as the exposure risk period has now passed. In total there were 20 residents and three staff cases associated with the outbreak and four additional resident cases were epi linked due to exposure with a confirmed case.

Six residents in the 66-bed facility died in connection with the outbreak, two of whom where epi-linked.

An earlier COVID-19 outbreak at Jubilee Lodge from December 2020 to February 2021 claimed the lives of 17 residents.

However, there are still two active outbreaks at the University Hospital of Northern B.C. (UHNBC).

An outbreak on the Internal Medicine Unit was declared on Oct. 5 and an outbreak was declared at the Primary Care Unit on Sept. 26.

UHNBC is now implementing full COVID-19 safety measures throughout the facility, in light of the declared outbreaks at the two inpatient units and the general rates of local COVID-19 activity.

Enhanced outbreak control measures are already in place on the Primary Care and Internal Medicine Units in response to the two unreleated outbreaks.

To further protect the health of patients, clients, staff and physicians, UHNBC is expanding measures to the entire facility, including all patient care areas and public spaces.

Effective immediately, only essential visitors will be allowed in any department or area of UHNBC.

Essential visits include those for compassionate care, including at end of life, and visitors accompanying patients with physical care or mental well-being needs.

Additional UHNBC COVID-19 Safety Plan measures being implemented facility-wide, include:

  • Access controls and facility entrance screening
  • Physical distancing, and occupancy limits – including in waiting rooms, meeting rooms, educational spaces, communal spaces and other common areas.
  • Masking protocols

UHNBC says patients and visitors should also watch for information and directional signage posted within the facility.

Public health officials will be monitoring the situation carefully over the coming weeks, with respect to both current UHNBC outbreaks and the duration of expanded COVID-19 measures, facility-wide.

Adblock test (Why?)
