Public Health is reporting another death due to COVID-19 in the province on Sunday, the fifth in three days.
The death was an individual in their 40s in the Moncton region.
"Each life taken in New Brunswick by COVID-19 is more than a number. These are people's parents, children, friends, neighbours and coworkers," said Premier Blaine Higgs in a statement posted to the province's website.
Public Health is reporting 82 new cases of COVID-19 in the province on Sunday, the highest one-day total since the pandemic began.
There are new cases in every region of the province. The most are in Fredericton region (30) and the Moncton region (27).
The province reported 628 active cases in Sunday's update. There are 33 people in hospital, 15 in intensive care.
Testing strain
Horizon Health is warning patients that they may see increased wait times to get a COVID-19 test and to receive the results.
"At assessment centres, we prioritize urgent requests (close contacts with confirmed cases and those with symptoms). Urgent requests should be booked within 24 hours and non-urgent may take up to 72 hours," said the health network in a post on its Facebook page.
Horizon Health also said they are asking people looking to get vaccinated to schedule an appointment online before heading out, but walk-in vaccinations are still available.
Either way, Horizon is asking people to be patient.
"The increase in COVID-19 cases and added restrictions in the province has resulted in high tension for everyone," said Horizon.
"Please be kind to your health care providers, they need your support."
