VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) — The upward trend of COVID-19 cases continues as the Fraser Health and Interior Health regions account for the highest number of COVID-19 cases across B.C.
While the Interior Health area has been a hot spot for COVID cases over the summer, Fraser Health now has the leading number of new cases, as of Thursday.
Out of the 801 infections reported, 267 were recorded in Fraser Health.
Meanwhile, the Interior Health region has recorded the second-highest number of cases (237).
Since Wednesday, six people infected with COVID-19 in the Interior Health have died.
Meantime the Vancouver Coastal region has recorded 128 cases, Northern Health has recorded 103 and 66 infections were reported in Island Health.
Of the 5,931 active cases, 199 individuals are in hospital and 116 are in intensive care.
Between Aug. 25 to 31, people who were not fully vaccinated accounted for 79 per cent of cases and from Aug 18 to 31, they accounted for 84 per cent of hospitalizations, according to the province.
So far, 84.6 per cent of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 76.9 received their second dose. And 85.3 per cent of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose and 77.9% received their second dose.
Since December, 7,494,567 vaccine doses have been administered.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been, 167,654 cases — of those 159,560 people who tested positive have recovered and 1,824 people have passed away.
