NEW COVID-19 CASES IN OTTAWA AND ONTARIO
There were 577 new cases of COVID-19 and six new deaths reported in Ontario on Tuesday.

Of the new cases, 452 are people who are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status, while 125 are fully vaccinated, Health Minister Christine Elliott tweeted on Tuesday.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 575,219 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 9,617 deaths.
As of Tuesday, 363 people in Ontario are hospitalized. Of these, 325 are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status, and 38 are fully vaccinated, Elliott tweeted.
There are 192 people in ICU due to COVID-19, with 166 still testing positive for the disease and 26 testing negative.
There are 119 people in ICU on a ventilator, with 102 testing positive and 17 testing negative.
The effective reproduction number, or R(e), is 1.03. The R(e) number is an estimate of the average number of people one person with COVID-19 will infect. A number lower than 1 indicates the virus is receding.

Public Health Ontario reported 59 new cases in Ottawa. In capital region health units, there were seven new cases in Leeds, Grenville and Lanark; three new cases in the Eastern Ontario public health unit and no new cases in Renfrew County. These numbers may change as local public health units report their own data later in the day.
So far, 21,212,026 doses of vaccine have been administered to Ontario residents, with 84.5 per cent of Ontario residents over the age of 12 having received one dose, and 78.2 per cent having received both doses, Elliott reported.
Meanwhile, a provincial announcement on the vaccination certificate program is expected early Tuesday afternoon.
Elliott is to speak to reporters at a news conference at 1 p.m. with Associate Minister of Digital Government Kaleed Rasheed and Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore.

THE LATEST COVID-19 NEWS IN OTTAWA
The Ottawa Board of Trade has announced it is expanding its antigen rapid testing kit distribution program until March 2022.
The board of trade has already handed out more than 52,000 individual tests in its central location to almost 450 businesses and will add pick-up locations at 1000 Innovation Dr., 5th floor in Kanata and 1730 St. Laurent Blvd., 8th floor.
More tests are on their way to Ottawa and are expected to be available within the next few days. It is expected there will be a steady supply of the tests until next March.
Appointments about how to administer the tests are necessary and can be booked on the Ottawa Board of Trade website.
Businesses will also be able to pick up decals for their storefronts to show customers they are taking steps to protect employees and customers after they have taken the “POST promise” at the same two locations.

The POST promise is a pledge for businesses that is part of a national initiative to commit to maintaining physical distancing, wearing a face covering, implementing preventive measures, screening for COVID-19, and encouraging vaccination.
A mobile vaccine clinic was to be held Tuesday at Zak’s Diner, 220 Elgin St.
The no-appointment event runs until 3 p.m. Those who attend are asked to provide either a health card, driver’s license or passport. A letter of eligibility from a medical specialist is required for those seeking a third dose.
