B.C. health officials are reporting 774 new COVID-19 cases in the province today, 253 of which were in Interior Health.
There are now 5,594 active cases in the province, an increase of 44 from yesterday, with 1,747 of those cases in the Interior, a drop of 46.
There were 233 new cases in Fraser Health (1,669 active), 123 in Vancouver Coastal Health (926 active), 98 in Northern Health (752 active), and 65 in Island Health (487 active).
There were also two new cases in people who normally live outside of Canada, with 13 such cases active.
As of the latest update, there are 262 people in hospital, 130 of whom are in intensive care. Health Minister Adrian Dix said there are 111 people in the ICU who are not vaccinated, with 10 who are partially vaccinated and the other nine fully vaccinated.
“And none of those under 50 who are in ICU are fully vaccinated,” he said. “Going up against the virus by going about our daily lives unvaccinated only helps the virus.”
In the past 24 hours, there have been five new COVID-19 deaths reported – three in Fraser Health, and one each in Northern and Island Health – taking the death toll to 1,847 people.
In a statement, Interior Health says there have been no new cases at two long term care home outbreaks in Kamloops.
They say the outbreak at Kamloops Seniors Village remains at 13 cases – four staff and nine residents with one death – while the outbreak at the Hamlets at Westsyde remains at six – three staff and three residents.
In an online statement though, Retirement Concepts, the operator of Kamloops Seniors Village says there are 15 cases linked to the facility – six staff and nine residents – with 12 cases active.
It is expected Interior Health will update its data to reflect those changes tomorrow.
Data from the province shows 85.3 per cent of people over the age of 12 (3,955,624) have gotten one dose of a COVID vaccine, while 77.7 per cent (3,608,067) are fully vaccinated. That is an increase of 6,455 first doses and 194,647 doses compared to Wednesday.
Between September 1 and 7, the province says people not fully vaccinated account for 78.6 per cent of all new COVID cases. Similarly, between August 25 and September 7, they accounted for 86.3 per cent of all hospitalizations.
