5 new COVID-19 cases in Peterborough; active cases rise to 39 - ThePeterboroughExaminer.com

Five new COVID-19 cases were reported Thursday by Peterborough Public Health, while two cases were resolved, resulting in 39 active cases, up from 36 on Wednesday.

Case counts have been rising each for the past month with most cases being among the unvaccinated, according to medical officer of health Dr. Rosana Salvaterra.

The number of people at high risk due to close contact with a confirmed case who are being monitored by the health unit has mushroomed to 423, up from 179 on Wednesday.

There were no new deaths, hospitalizations or outbreaks. There are no active outbreaks. Peterborough Regional Health Centre had one admitted patient with COVID-19 on Thursday.

The local public and Catholic school boards did not have any student cases Thursday. Fleming College does not have any active cases on campus.

The jurisdiction of Peterborough city and county, Curve Lake First Nation and Hiawatha First Nation has now had 1,734 cumulative cases with 1,673 resolved and 22 earlier deaths. There have been 970 cases identified as variants, up from 953 on Wednesday.

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit is not reporting new numbers until Friday.

Pop-up clinics continue

Walk-in, no appointment COVID-19 vaccine clinics for those 12 and older at the Healthy Planet Arena at 911 Monaghan Rd. in Peterborough will continue on Sept. 13 and 20 from noon to 6 p.m. and on Sept. 10, 17 and 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The health unit has shifted from mass vaccination clinics by appointment to a series of no-appointment pop-up drop-in clinics in the city and county aimed at reaching out to those who have yet to be vaccinated:

  • Crestwood Secondary School library, 1885 Sherbrooke St. W. on Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m.
  • Adam Scott Collegiate cafeteria, 175 Langton St. on Friday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Citi Centre, 245 Charlotte St. on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Buckhorn Community Centre, 1782 Lakehurst Rd. on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Lakefield College School chapel, 4391 County Rd. 29 in Lakefield on Sept. 16 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. (open to all residents)
  • Cavan Monaghan Community Centre, 986 County Rd. 10 near Millbrook on Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Havelock Community Centre, 39 George St. E., Havelock on Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Shots can also be booked through 28 pharmacies in Peterborough city and county, though not all will have vaccine in stock.

Anyone getting vaccinated at the health unit clinics will be entered into a draw to win a $50 Peterborough DBIA Boro gift card good at downtown businesses.

Through the Get a Shot to Take a Shot campaign, anyone who gets a vaccine dose between now and Sept. 30 will also get a chance to win one of 250 pairs of Petes home game tickets, with two entries if getting both doses during that period.
