Region reports 22 new COVID cases Saturday - KitchenerToday.com

Region of Waterloo Public Health confirmed 22 new COVID cases on Saturday, bringing the overall total to 18,760.

14 people are being treated in hospital --- nine are in intensive care.

The active caseload is up to 143.

76 per cent of residents 12 and over are now fully vaccinated. Over 84 per cent of eligible residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine, which works out to over 818,000 doses. 

Here are some other updates from the region's COVID summary dashboard: 

• 4,953 cases have screened positive for variants of concern - 3,125 are the Alpha variant (first found in U.K.) - 21 are linked to the Beta variant (first detected in South Africa) - 1,441 are linked to the Delta strain (first located in India) - 98 are linked to the Gamma variant (first found in Brazil) - 268 cases where a mutation has been detected
• The local death toll remains at 288, with no new deaths reported Saturday
• 18,325 resolved cases (98 per cent)
• Over 561,000 tests have been done

There are currently five active outbreaks in the region. Three are in workplaces:

• NEW Security 1 (2 cases)
• Rising Oaks Early Learning - St. Brigid (2 cases)
• Conestoga Lodge RH (7 cases in residents, 1 staff case)
• Place of worship 5 - Nazarene Christian Congregation (30 cases)
• Food processing 13 (10 cases)

Meantime, the province reported 689 new cases on Saturday --- 427 were unvaccinated.

• 75 per cent of those 12 and over have been fully vaccinated

• In hospital due to COVID - 103 unvaccinated - 9 partially vaccinated - 23 fully vaccinated. ICU data - 67 unvaccinated - 9 partially vaccinated - 7 fully vaccinated
• 9,451 deaths (1 new death)
• 26,096 tests completed Friday --- Over 16.99 million since January 15, 2020
