Owen Sound Selects Win U23 Provincials, Other Grey Bruce Fastball Teams Post Strong Results

Several fastball teams from Bruce and Grey counties put in strong finishes at provinicial tournaments.

SELECTS WIN

The Owen Sound Selects defeated the Tavistock Merchants 11-1 in Sunday’s final to capture the under-23 Ontario Amateur Softball Association provincial championship at Cambridge.

Riley Manion of the Selects was named the top pitcher of the tournament.

U16 FINALISTS

The Chatsworth Longhorns settled for a second-place finish in the OASA U16 provincial ‘A’ championship on Sunday.

Chatsworth defeated Wilmot 2-0 to advance to the final and had two opportunities to secure the title.

The Wilmot Thunder managed to respond with two straight wins over Chatsworth to win: 5-2 and then 3-2 in the decider.

Meanwhile, the Tara Twins u16 squad managed a second-place finish in the under-16 OASA provincial ‘B’ championship.

Tara lost to Westport Storm in the final.

U14 RESULT

Tara Twins under-14 team also played at the Eastern Canadian Championships in New Brunswick over the weekend.

The Twins ended up finishing in fourth-place at the event, losing to eventual champion Wilmot 3-1 in the playoffs.
