New Brunswick is expanding COVID-19 vaccination eligibility to children that turn 12 by the end of the year.
We know that there will continue to be cases in schools in the coming year,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Dominic Cardy.
“This change will help support healthy and safe schools by allowing a greater number of students to be vaccinated, particularly in schools with younger children. If you are eligible, please go get your shot and help protect our schools.”
The expansion affects the province’s vaccination statistics, increasing the eligible population to 696,218 and in some cases lowering the percentage of people that have been vaccinated.
Second dose vaccinations increased by over one percentage point, as 73.8% of the eligible population is now fully vaccinated.
The amount of New Brunswickers with at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine now stands at 83.8%.
In addition, a routine review discovered 8,159 vaccinations were not recorded across all systems. The latest vaccination rates reflect the addition of these doses.

New Brunswick Public Health has reported 15 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.
The 10 new cases in Zone 1 (Moncton region) are as follows:
- four people 19 and under;
- two people 20-29;
- three people 30-39; and
- one person 40-49.
Seven cases are contacts of previously confirmed cases, two are travel-related, and one is under investigation.
The two cases in Zone 3 (Fredericton region) are two people 19 and under. Both are contacts of previously confirmed cases.
The three cases in Zone 7 (Miramichi region) are as follows:
- one person 60-69;
- one person 70-79; and
- one person 80-89.
All three cases are contacts of previously confirmed cases.
Since Monday, 21 New Brunswickers have recovered from COVID-19. The active caseload is down to 167, including three individuals in the hospital.
