The Aug. 19 dashboard report from Region of Waterloo Public Health shows 134 active cases of the virus, with a total of 18,291 cases resolved.
There were 20 new positive cases of the virus reported for a total of 18,719 positive cases of COVID-19 in the region, 17 of which are currently hospitalized. Among the cases currently hospitalized in the region for the virus, 10 have entered an intensive-care unit.
There are 4,951 cases of a variant identified in Waterloo region, with 3,124 cases of the Alpha (first detected in the U.K.), 21 cases of Beta (first detected in South Africa), 1,440 cases of Delta (first detected in India) and 98 cases of Gamma (first detected in Brazil).
There have been a total of 558,192 COVID-19 tests administered (updated on Tuesday and Friday).
288 deaths have been reported of those testing positive with the virus.
An outbreak was declared at Rising Oaks Early Learning child care facility (2 cases).
An outbreak ended at a retail workplace (2 cases).
The total number of outbreaks in the region is now 4, with the breakdown as follows:

Transmission of the virus is the highest in the region in close contact cases, where 8,740 have been reported.
In the rest of the cases, 5,642 were acquired through community transmission, 3,954 cases were acquired through outbreak, 373 cases acquired COVID-19 while travelling.
The highest number of cases in Waterloo region is in adults in their 20s with 4,599. People in their 30s represent 3,101 of the cases, while those in their 40s make up 2,509 of the region's cases. 1,057 kids under the age of nine have tested positive, and 1,971 between the age of 10 and 19.
Just over six per cent of cases to date, 1,048 in total, are among health-care workers.
The region does not report the age, gender, transmission route and testing site of individual cases, as well as negative tests.
New cases will be added daily.
