The Middlesex-London Health Unit says it was notified of three initial cases involving customers at Delilah’s on Friday and another 12 on Saturday.
“Investigators have also determined that several of these cases attended a gathering together at a private residence during the time they also attended the restaurant while infectious,” the health unit said in a statement Sunday.
The health unit is asking staff and patrons of the restaurant at 209 John St. who were there between Aug. 5 and 7 to monitor themselves for symptoms. People with symptoms should get tested at a COVID-19 assessment centre.
“We know that it raises concerns when the health unit declares a COVID-19 outbreak, especially at a restaurant, but we are starting to see cases and outbreaks increase in our region, including cases in individuals who are vaccinated,” associate medical officer of health Alex Summers said in a statement.

“Even though patios and restaurants are open and indoor dining is permitted, we must not let our guard down. Wear a mask, maintain physical distancing, gather outdoors as much as possible and if you’re spending any time indoors, make sure everyone you’re hanging out with is fully vaccinated.”
The vaccination status of the 15 cases in the Delilah’s outbreak was not immediately clear.
The restaurant outbreak comes days after a separate outbreak was declared at an Old South retirement home. Many residents of Grand Wood Park are in isolation after two fully vaccinated residents tested positive for COVID-19, the health unit said Saturday. One resident is in hospital.
COVID-19 cases in London and Middlesex County have been steadily rising in recent weeks, particularly among unvaccinated and partially vaccinated individuals.
Of the 322 cases reported since July 2, 91 per cent have been among people who are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated or within 14 days of their first dose, the timeline necessary to develop an immune response.
