Ontario study finds COVID vaccines performing better than expected at preventing infections, hospitalizations and deaths – Barrie 360 - Barrie 360

An Ontario study has found all the COVID vaccines available in Canada are doing better than expected at preventing infections, hospitalizations, and deaths from variants of concern – even after just one dose.

Local and Provincial COVID-19 numbers as of Monday, July 5

“Our real-world vaccine effectiveness estimates suggest that even a single dose of these three vaccine products provide good to excellent protection against symptomatic infection and severe outcomes caused by the four currently circulating (variants of concern), and that two doses are likely to provide even higher protection,” scientists at Public Health Ontario, University of Toronto and several hospitals wrote.

The vaccines were found to be up to 96 per cent effective at preventing hospitalization or death, and up to 83 per cent effective at preventing symptomatic infection.
