Interior Health is getting ready to administer second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine at a record pace, as a record number of people in the region are becoming eligible for the second shot.
“We continue to focus on expanding distribution of first doses of COVID-19 vaccine throughout the region,” said Interior Health president and CEO Susan Brown. “Although we’ll be supporting more people eligible for their second doses of vaccine, anyone who wants their first dose will have bypass lanes to drop-in clinics whenever it works for them.”
Brown also added that over 785,000 doses of vaccine have been administered throughout the IH region. She would like to remind young people and families that anyone born in 2009 or earlier (ages 12 and up) is eligible to drop-in to get their shots.
The Interior’s vaccine rollout is a coordinated effort between Interior Health and the First Nations Health Authority. To date, immunizers across the region have administered 537,228 first doses and 249,405 second doses for a total of 786,633 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. After the mobile vaccine clinics delivered 8,100 vaccines, IH has also announced that the mobile clinic will be running through July.
“As our teams travelled across the region, we heard these clinics are a fast, efficient and convenient way to provide access to immunizations in smaller and rural communities,” said Brown. “Their journey continues as we extend through July. They will return to many communities and also visit new communities to ensure everyone has convenient access to a COVID-19 vaccine.”
