Face coverings mandatory on buses in Central Okanagan
B.C. Transit is reinstating the mandatory use of face coverings for customers on all its buses connected to the Central Okanagan, effective today.
This policy change impacts all routes and service in the Kelowna Regional Transit System, route 90 UBCO/Vernon in the Vernon Regional Transit System and route 70 Penticton/Kelowna in the South Okanagan-Similkameen Transit System.
B.C. Transit said customers may notice a delay in signage changes as the company updates messaging in these transit systems.
U.K. excludes Canadian travellers from new exception to quarantine measures
Fully vaccinated Canadian travellers have been left out of plans to ease quarantine restrictions for entry to England and Scotland.
The United Kingdom countries announced Wednesday that travellers who are fully vaccinated in the United States or Europe will not have to quarantine upon arrival.
The changes are set to go in place at 4 a.m. on Aug. 2.
The English and Scottish governments did not provide a reason why Canada was not included in the new quarantine exceptions.
The countries involved in the exceptions include European Union member states apart from France, members of the European free trade agreement and the microstate countries of Andorra, Monaco and Vatican City.

That means Canadians landing in England or Scotland must quarantine at home or in the place they are staying for 10 days and take a COVID-19 test after day eight.
The other two countries that make up the U.K. — Wales and Northern Ireland — did not change their rules, meaning Canadians still must self-isolate upon arrival in these states.

More than half of 185 new cases in Interior Health
New cases of COVID-19 in B.C. jumped by 185 cases on Wednesday, the highest daily count in the province since June 5.
About 61 per cent of the new cases are in Interior Health, the province’s hotspot, which reported 113 cases. Fraser Health saw 35 new cases; Vancouver Coastal Health, 26; Island Health, eight; and Northern Health, two. There is also one new case of COVID-19 of a person who resides outside Canada.
The new transmissions bring the number of active cases in the province to 909, up from Tuesday’s 783.
Three more people have died over the last 24 hours, all in Vancouver Coastal Health. The death toll for the pandemic in B.C. now stands at 1,771.
Wednesday’s COVID-19 update came hours after health officials reinstated a mask requirement in indoor public spaces in the Central Okanagan, including Kelowna, West Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland and West Bank First Nations lands.
The return of restrictions was prompted by an uptick in new infections in Interior Health.
Health officials said half of all COVID-19 cases in B.C. last week have been among residents in the Central Okanagan, particularly Kelowna. Roughly half of cases are linked to a private household party or a social gathering.
