Wednesday sees flurry of changes to Waterloo Region vaccine rollout - KitchenerToday.com

Starting Wednesday, getting a first or second dose of COVID-19 vaccine became much more straightforward.

Those who want their first dose of the vaccine can simply walk in to three locations:

Health Sciences Campus Vaccination Clinic
10 Victoria Street South, Kitchener

  • Monday to Friday: 1-4 p.m. & 5-8 p.m.
  • Saturday & Sunday: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. & 1 – 4 p.m.

The Boardwalk Vaccination Clinic
435 The Boardwalk, Medical Centre 2, Suite 106, Waterloo

  • Open 7 days a week: 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Waterloo Region Public Health
99 Regina Street South, Waterloo

  • Open Saturday & Sunday: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. & 1 – 3:30 p.m.

No appointment is needed, but you are asked to bring your Ontario health card or another piece of identification.

In addition, second dose eligibility has been increased due to Waterloo Region's status as a Delta hotspot in the province, and increased vaccine supply.

Those who received an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) before May 30 can now reschedule their second dose earlier by calling a local pharmacy (in this case, don't forget to cancel your original appointment), or by using the Public Health booking system at RegionofWaterloo.ca/VaccineBook.

That booking system got an upgrade of sorts, starting Wednesday at 9 a.m. The pre-registration phase of booking has been scrapped, and anyone 12+ can now directly book their appointment. A flood of demand from local residents has had an impact on the website, and wait times to book have been reported at over an hour.

Students age 12 to 17 are eligible to register for an in-school clinic until Saturday as well, though an appointment is needed.

The clinics will take place at the following schools:

  • Grand River Collegiate in Kitchener
  • Huron Heights Secondary School in Kitchener
  • Southwood Secondary School in Cambridge

Instructions on how to book an appointment are posted below:

To book an appointment please email youthclinics@regionofwaterloo.ca with your name, contact information, and preferred clinic location. Someone will call you back to complete the booking process (within 48 hours).

You can also book an appointment by calling the YMCA settlement services at 226-339-4964.
