COVID-19: Ontario reports 346 new cases, OPH reports 6 for Ottawa; Teens in Delta hot spots can now book accelerated 2nd doses - Simcoe Reformer

Ontario is reporting 346 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, nearly 100 more than the 256 reported yesterday. There were also 13 more deaths reported Saturday.

By region, there were 64 new cases reported in Toronto, 39 in the Region of Waterloo, 34 in Peel, 32 in Grey Bruce and 24 in the northeast Porcupine Health Unit region, according to a Twitter post by Health Minister Christine Elliott.

Ottawa Public Health reported six new cases on Saturday and two new deaths. There can sometimes be a discrepancy in case totals reported by Public Health Ontario and Ottawa Public Health due to differences in when the data is pulled.

Canada’s chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam received her second dose of the vaccine Saturday in Ottawa.

There were 25,600 tests completed over the past 24 hours, down from some 26,600 from the previous day.

On the vaccine front, 13,824,469 doses of approved COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the province, as of 8 p.m. Friday night. This includes 256,260 doses administered on Friday, a new record for the province.

Also, Ontarians between the ages of 12 and 17 that live in designated Delta hot spots can now book an accelerated second dose appointment.

Starting today at 8 a.m., teens in the Durham, Halton, Hamilton, Peel, Porcupine, Simcoe-Muskoka, Toronto, Waterloo, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph and York public health units can book a faster second dose through the provincial booking system, participating pharmacies or through their respective public health units.

The emergency room of the Gatineau Hospital is closed until June 28 at 4 p.m.

The CISSS de l’Outaouais made the announcement via social media Friday without giving more details. In a French-language press release distributed Saturday, the CISSS de l’Outaouais blamed a lack of nursing staff for the closure.

The health authority is asking Gatineau residents to go to the Hull Hospital emergency room or to the Papineau Hospital emergency room in Buckingham.
