There are 120 new COVID-19 cases in B.C. today, and one death from the virus.
In Interior Health there were 43 new cases today. Elsewhere, there were 53 cases in Fraser Health, 13 in Vancouver Coastal Health, five in Island Health and five in Northern Health. There was also one new cases in B.C. in a person who lives outside of the province.
In B.C. there are now 1,451 active cases, which is three fewer than yesterday. Hospitalizations have also dropped by three today, now at 131, while intensive care patients rose by three, to 44.
Meanwhile, there were 66,729 vaccine doses administered in the past day, including a record 57,161 second doses. This means 76.5 per cent of people 18 and older have gotten at least one dose, while 17.8 per cent of adults are fully vaccinated.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says fewer Pfizer doses will be coming to B.C. than initially expected. Pfizer is the main vaccine that the province has been getting supplied to it.
Henry says increases in Moderna doses coming will offset the fewer Pfizer doses.
The top doctor also commented on a new study from the National Advisory Committee on Immunizations, which says Pfizer or Moderna are preferred as second doses for people who received AstraZeneca as a first dose. Henry did not go as far as endorsing that study yet, and suggests B.C. will not change its guidance. She says the guidance from NACI is on a small study and reiterates AstraZeneca is effective.
