People 40 or older in 2021 can start booking COVID-19 vaccination appointments Thursday, Peterborough Public Health has announced.
As well, people with at-risk health conditions, including respiratory ailments, heart disease, diabetes and addiction, and essential workers who can’t work from home will be eligible effective immediately.
Eligible residents can book their appointment online at www.ontario.ca/bookvaccine or by phone at 1-833-943-3900, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week.
The health conditions include innune deficiencies and autoimmune disorders, stroke and cerebrovascular disease, dementia, liver disease, all cancers, asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, pleurisy, asplenia, hypertension with end organ damage, diagnosed mental disorder, substance use disorders, sickle cell disease, thalassemia and immunocompromising health conditions.
The essential workers are in the province’s Group 2, which includes retail employees (grocery, foodbank, pharmacy, ServiceOntario, ServiceCanada, Passport Canada, wholesalers and general goods, restaurant, LCBO workers), manufacturing employees, social workers and social services staff who provide in-person services, courts and justice system workers, transportation, warehouse and distribution workers (including truck drivers, transit employees and highway maintenance workers), electrical system workers, communications workers (cellular, satellite, landline, internet), bank staff, water and wastewater workers, veterinarians and their staff, oil and petroleum workers, natural gas and propane workers, miners and uranium processing workers.
Peterborough Public Health reminds people to be patient as appointment availability remains limited until more vaccine supplies are received. Shipments are expected to increase during the week May 17.
Vaccine clinics are being offered at several locations, including the Evinrude Centre.
Eligibility expanded last Thursday to everyone 50 and over, people with high-risk health conditions, essential workers who cannot work from home (including elementary and high school workers) and any Indigenous people who have not already had a chance to book.
The Rexall pharmacy on Chemong Road, the Guardian pharmacy on High Street and pharmacies at Costco and the Chemong Road Walmart are currently offering the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccination to people 40 and older. Appointments are required and can be made by calling the pharmacies or signing up through their online sites. Vaccinations are conducted once vaccine shipments arrive.
