B.C.’S COVID-19 CASE NUMBERS

As of the latest figures given on May 28:
• Total number of confirmed cases: 143,581 (3,441 active cases)
• New cases since May 26: 317
• Total deaths: 1,692 (two new deaths)
• Hospitalized cases: 292
• Intensive care: 79
• Total vaccinations: 3,106,269 doses administered; 160,885 second doses
• Recovered from acute infection: 138,360
• Long-term care and assisted-living homes, and acute care facilities currently affected: 7

LATEST NEWS ON COVID-19 IN B.C.

2:30 p.m. – Outbreak declared at long-term care home in Richmond

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared on the third floor of Richmond Lions Manor-Bridgeport after two patients and two staff tested positive for COVID-19.

Vancouver Coastal Health says the home is closed to new admissions and transfers at this time and all group activities have been suspended.

Visits to the third floor of Richmond Lions Manor-Bridgeport have been suspended until the outbreak measures have been lifted; the exception being for essential care or compassionate visits at the end of life.

Health officials are conducting contact tracing and enhanced cleaning.

Meantime, Vancouver Coastal Health says the outbreak at Lions Gate Hospital is now over.

VCH says a total of 36 people, including five staff, tested positive for COVID-19 during the outbreak and seven individuals, all patients, died.

COVID-19 case rates declined across the province compared to the previous week, according to the latest data released by health authorities on May 28.

The overall decline masked differences between regions and neighbourhoods.

Cases rates increased most in Fort Nelson and Central Abbotsford. Cases continued to fall Surrey, although transmission remains relatively high in the city.

12 a.m. – 317 new cases, two deaths, new outbreak 

B.C. 317 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday and two new deaths.

Health officials say of the new cases, 73 are in Vancouver Coastal Health, 163 in Fraser Health, five in Island Health, 60 in Interior Health, and 16 in Northern Health.

There are 3,441 active cases, with 292 people in hospital including 79 in critical care.

One new outbreak has been reported at Brookside Lodge in the Fraser Health region.

12 a.m. – 15 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine coming to Canada

Procurement Minister Anita Anand says Canada has confirmed shipments of 15 million more doses of COVID-19 vaccines from three suppliers.

She says every eligible Canadian will have access to a second dose by the end of the summer.About 2.4 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech will arrive each week over five weeks in June and nine million more will arrive in July.
Anand says Moderna has provided an updated delivery schedule for the first part of June, with 500,000 doses in two shipments starting next week.
She also says 1.5 million doses of Moderna are arriving the week of June 14.-The Canadian Press
